TV Jones obviously makes great pickups but I feel all these variations are mild changes on a theme of a mini humbucker wound to relatively low output. They all have alnico magnets. The blacktop does have an 1/8" thick alnico magnet vs the 1/4 in the HS and TV Jones. I personally feel these 'differences' are over emphasized.

Feb 16, 2016. #14. Filtertrons = Malcom Young. Gibson style Humbuckers = Angus Young. Filters have more clarity than PAF style pickups. Generally I find them a little more scooped than Gibson style pickups. I use them for Blues and Jazz tones, occasionally Rockabilly type stuff and, of course, Rock and Roll type stuff.

Please realize all I have owned were Prolines with TV Classics and HS Filters alnico. My thoughts are that these pickups are some seriously great pickups. Honestly given a regular decent amp these things are no entry level pickup and can hold there own with any pro pickup.They are very classic Filtertron and they are ballsy and loud.

TV Jones recommends the neck pickups to be 3/16" from the strings and the bridge to be 5/32" from the strings. This is the top of the pickup, not the pole pieces.
